Feeding Emme: Peaches & Peas

Spring is such a great time for fresh produce.  From fruits to vegetables, the choices are plentiful.  And stone fruits in particular make me extra happy.  Once they start hitting the market I want to add them to everything I can get my hands on.  Plum oatmeal, peachy brown rice pudding, a crisp or crumble, you name it.  Here I took some perfectly ripe peaches and pureed them with fresh english peas for baby sister.  She ate it with all the joy and delight her cute little 7-month old face had.

*You can also use frozen peaches and peas for this recipe.  Whatever is easier for you – you will still introduce your little one to a sweet and nutritional treat.

Peaches & Peas

Recipe type: 6 Months + Up

Serves: 3 cups puree

Ingredients

  1. 10 oz. frozen or fresh peas

  2. 2 large peaches, pitted and diced

  3. 1 large banana, peeled

  4. ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

  5. â…› teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Steam the peas and peaches on the stovetop for about 5 minutes or until cooked through. Add all ingredients to a food processor. Puree until smooth, adding a little of the steaming water until desired consistency is reached.

Notes

Steaming fruits and vegetables is an ideal way to soften produce while maintaining the nutrients. Using the leftover steaming water for pureeing retains even more nutrients.
