Start Em’ Young

Since she started eating solid food, Audrey has been the most adventurous of eaters.  And by adventurous I mean, don’t even think of having anything in front of her without getting stared down until you cave and give her a bite. Whether smokey artichoke-fennel soup or eggs covered in hot sauce, she’s game for a taste.  It’s quite shocking actually, but it only reinforces what I already believe. Babies have palates just as adults do and can handle a lot more than we give them credit for.  If we let them explore the foods we are eating while they’re young, not only will it create constant food experimentation, it will infinitely broaden their taste-buds.  Case in point, my green juice addiction.  When Audrey started fussing for sips of mine earlier this summer, I hesitated, how could a cold-pressed green juice filled with kale, chard, ginger, cayenne, etc…not make her throw up?  I cautiously let her take a small sip and waited for some extreme reaction.  There was none.  She just went in for more. And has every time since then.  I have no idea if this will last through toddlerhood, but I do know that as of today she has a taste for foods outside the baby box.  And that makes me one happy mama.
